What you need
Dozi needs two Apple devices. The nursery device can be an older iPhone or iPad as long as it can run the app, connect to WiFi, use the camera and microphone, and stay plugged in for long sessions. The parent device can be the iPhone or iPad you carry with you.
For free local monitoring, both devices should be on the same home WiFi network. For remote monitoring outside your home network, Dozi Premium supports 5G, LTE, or another WiFi network.
You do not need a dedicated baby monitor camera for the basic setup. The main requirement is a safe place for the nursery device, a charger that can stay connected, and enough WiFi signal for live video and audio.
Set up the nursery iPhone
- Install Dozi from the App Store on the iPhone or iPad you want to leave near the crib.
- Open Dozi and choose the Nursery Camera role.
- Allow camera, microphone, notifications, and local network access when iOS asks.
- Place the device where it has a clear view of the crib and can stay plugged in.
Keep charging, heat, and cable placement in mind. The device should be secure, out of reach, and positioned so the charging cable cannot be pulled into the crib.
Place the camera safely
The nursery iPhone or iPad should have a clear view of the sleep area without being inside the crib. Use a stable shelf, stand, or mount that cannot fall, and keep the device, charging brick, and cable away from the baby.
Before a long session, check that the device is charging, not covered by fabric, and not sitting in direct sunlight. Live video can keep a device active for a long time, so airflow and secure placement matter.
Pair the parent monitor
Install Dozi on the parent device, choose Parent Monitor, and scan the QR code shown on the nursery device. The QR pairing flow creates a trusted connection between your devices so you do not need to create an account or type a password.
After pairing, live video and audio stream between the devices. If the devices are on the same WiFi network, local monitoring is free. If the parent device is away from the home network, Premium enables remote access.
If pairing does not work
- Make sure both devices are connected to WiFi during the first local setup.
- Allow local network permission if iOS asks for it.
- Allow camera and microphone permission on the nursery device.
- Clean the camera lens if the QR code scan is blurry.
- Restart both devices if the QR code is visible but the connection does not start.
Most setup problems come from blocked permissions, weak WiFi, or one device being on a different network than expected. The Dozi Support page has more troubleshooting notes.
Make the connection reliable
- Plug in both devices before naps or overnight sessions.
- Use a stable WiFi network and avoid weak corners of the home.
- Turn on Do Not Disturb or Focus settings only if they do not block the alerts you need.
- Keep the nursery device out of direct sunlight and away from blankets or soft surfaces that trap heat.
- Restart both devices if pairing stalls or the camera feed does not start.
For home use, local WiFi monitoring is the simplest option. If you need the parent monitor to work over 5G, LTE, or another network, read the baby monitor over 5G guide.
What to expect in a dark room
Dozi can brighten and enhance the camera image in a dim nursery, but it does not add infrared night vision hardware to an iPhone. In a very dark room, the image may still look dark. A dim night light can help the camera show more detail.
Why use Dozi instead of a spare video call?
A normal video call is made for conversation. Dozi is made for baby monitoring: two roles, QR pairing, local WiFi monitoring, optional remote monitoring, no account requirement, and privacy-first handling of live nursery video and audio.
A video call also usually assumes people on both sides are actively participating. A baby monitor has a different job: keep one device pointed at the nursery, keep the parent view available, and avoid unnecessary accounts or cloud recordings around a private room.
